Roots & Mud

Statement of Purpose

Roots & Mud is a community organization dedicated to the liberation of all children and families, centering those historically and systematically disempowered. Our purpose is to partner with families of young children navigating the world of disability. Our goals include a commitment to providing educational, therapeutic, and material resources to children, families, and professionals with the support of other community members.

The roots and mud values emphasize the need for community based services that acknowledge and actively work against oppressive systems. Our radical approach to whole-child development is rooted in disability rights and social-youth justice.

This requires a practice informed by neurodiversity affirming, trauma-informed, relationship centered and culturally sustaining frameworks. We work to create an inclusive environment that encourages a sense of belonging and trust for all children and families.

Everyone has a right to safety, information, and resources that allows them to participate fully in their child’s development and service provision. Our goal is to increase equitable family-centered care by providing workshops, resources, and accessible services to our community. Connection and progress begin with creating a compassionate, inclusive environment grounded in accessibility to meet our basic needs.

Message from Natalia

Across my academic and clinical career, I have wondered how to use my skills and knowledge to most equitably empower and support young children and families. Through sought out education, research, literature, and community based opportunities I have arrived at the beginnings of my praxis; a foundation of love, curiosity, and empathy.

My goal is to connect families to the support, resources, and knowledge that builds and maintains whole-child responsiveness through honoring autonomy, culture, human development, and inclusive communication. It is the work of my life to ensure every child and family receives the communal care necessary to not just survive, but thrive. Roots & Mud is my love letter to children and families everywhere.

Welcome.
